Poetry in Prose: Middle Finger

“…a jackass punk with a middle finger for a moral compass.”

Storm Large Crazy Enough p. 87

Large describes her teenage self. I have always found the term “moral compass” to be kind of trendy and a strange mixture of religion and navigation. Since both compasses and fingers can point, I particularly love the thought of the middle finger pointing the way.

Know any other great descriptions of cultural rebels?

Drevil

Drevil earned his nickname at the cribbage table in his jail pod. His shaved head earned him the moniker Dr. Evil on the score sheet. Except someone forgot the dot and he was forever known as Drevil. He made it his mission to write reviews for every book he read during a long incarceration. We are proud to offer up as many of those reviews (and essays) as we could find.
