Think Thank Thunk is a concept designed to help improve life through clearer, more healthy thinking. It relies heavily on the concepts of meta-thinking and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Meta-thinking means “thinking about thinking,” or “thinking about how you think.” Cognitive behavioral therapy is a time-worn modality of psychology that has been proven many times to be highly effective.

Three easily-remembered words can help guide a person from thought to emotion to behavior. Or from emotion to thought to behavior. Or from…you get the idea. Those three ideas can arrive in any order just about every day of our lives. We deal with a thought that generates a feeling and we act on it. We take action (behave,) which leads to a feeling and we adjust our thoughts accordingly. We feel something, think about why we feel what we are feeling and then take action to enhance the feeling or discard it. This sort of triangle is the core of CBT.

So, we are just taking some effective concepts and enhancing them for easy use. Here we go!

THINK When you stop yourself from whatever you are doing and mentally say the word “THINK,” you will open a large toolbox of thought helpers that will bring clarity to what you are thinking. We’ll talk a lot about the importance of rationality when we dive into the THINK portion of Think Thank Thunk.

THANK We chose the word THANK to symbolize emotions because thankfulness, or gratitude, is one of the most powerful positive emotions out there. What does someone do when they accomplish something great? They thank people who helped them get there. What about when someone is rescued from a burning home? They feel grateful to those who rescued them. Whether or not gratitude is even an emotion is perhaps debatable (and therefore open to THINKing,) but we believe it is an appropriate word to spur us to process our emotions, both positive and negative.

THUNK is the actions we take when our thoughts (THINK) and our emotions (THANK) are in happy alignment. But THUNK is more than just action, it is habit, positive habit. The THUNK is the sound of our actions falling into a track of positive outcomes, kind of like when things just line up and start rolling forward. Like when a train is on the right track and rolling along.

We aim to provide the thinking tools, the steps to emotional processing and how to translate all of that into positive behavior through the various article we write. This is a journey and we are just getting started.
